Once you have the exe extracted, open up the location using file explorer and double-click SteamCMD.exe. WARNING: DO NOT double click on SteamCMD.exe to extract it WITHOUT knowing where it will extract to. For the purposes of this guide I will use the default location of C:\SteamCMD (Note: requires winzip/winrar/7zip or other unpacking software)ĭouble-click on the zip and extract to a location of your choosing. SteamCMD is a CLI (command line interface) utility that makes it easy to obtain and maintain the server files require for KF2. The first order of business is to get the Server files onto your machine. Use Speedtest to a test server to see if you have sufficient bandwidth to host games. Latency is also dependant on where you are located and your connection to the internet. You also require at least 5Mb/s of upload speed on your connection. The server files currently require 3GB of storage but it is recommended to have at least 5-10GB free. Whether you play the game simultaneously while you host or not, be aware of what your hardware can handle. Please note: Certain resources must be available in order to be able to host a dedicated server on your machine. I, and by result this guide, are not responsible for anything that might go wrong, follow at your own risk! Any problem on playing the game itself arising from following this guide is purely coincidental and should not in any way be related. It does NOT modify your existing Killing Floor 2 install and will be separate from the actual game. Tripwire Interactive Wiki - Dedicated Server Information ĭisclaimer: This guide involves command line interaction, configuration file editing and network configuration on your home router. All other information is otherwise general knowledge and/or my own screenshots of the set-up process. Most of the information found here is available freely on the TWI wiki page on dedicated servers for KF2, this guide is to simply elaborate on the steps required and make it simpler for people to configure their server. This writeup will take you through the basics of getting the server running for private/public use on your home network. Here is my ini.Welcome to the (hopefully) easy guide of setting up a dedicated server for Killing Floor 2 Early Access. My internal address keeps showing up and I overlooked my ports and my firewall dozens of times and I can't figure out what the problem is. I gave him my public IP address and he tried adding it to his favorites but it just says "Unknown Server". I told him to see what the IP was, and I knew it needed to be my public IP address, and sure enough, it wasn't. I tried inviting a friend to play and he said it was just sitting at the loading screen. I've added that to my favorites and I can join it and play perfectly. I'm aware MY IP address for the server is my home IP with the port of 7707. There was a suggestion to change the ServerBehindNat to true in the KF ini, which I did, and nothing happened. I've done a ♥♥♥♥ load of research trying to figure out with the problem is. For some reason, no one can join my server. I've just recently made a dedicated server on Killing Floor, I've done everything I needed to do with the whole Steam cmd thing, I have opened all of the ports necessary, I've done everything needed to make it.
